Been playing an amazing RPG on my iPod lately called Infinity Blade, which inspired me to give shield-molding another shot. My first attempt turned out less than satisfactory: [link] (This looks like so much crap at this point...)
I decided to try and make a shield called the Dorn at first, but after basing the general design, I found the entire thing to be too complicated, so I turned to the Norsal for some inspiration. The end result looks less like anything from the game and turned out to be a completely original design.
After some general study on shield-crafting, I finally figured a way to make it bulge a bit in the middle and make it look like an actual shield instead of the flat-ness that my original Hylian Shield (see above link) had.
Decided to name it the Vaxus. (Cheesy AND Nerdy Name? Oh Hell Yes.)
I still ended up adding a Triforce in the middle (how could I not?) and probably overdesigned it...just a bit...in the process of drawing the thing out, I just had so many ideas and was constantly going, "OH! AND I CAN PUT THIS HERE AND...OH! BUT MAYBE SOME SPIKES WOULD WORK BETTER AND...OH! HOW ABOUT SOME GOLD PATTERNS?!" and basically went insane with it. Funny how it only took two days to design and craft. Mainly because this was a beautiful excuse from homework.
The silver was spray painted (It's so blasted shiny...) while everything else (gold, gunmetal, black) was hand-painted via brush. It was hard trying to figure out what would be gold and what would be black/gunmetal. In the end I think this color scheme turned out pretty well.
Added a handle and strap to the back so it can be used with my 1/60 PG Gundams, which is why I molded it to this size. (roughly 6inches in length)
Oh, this is a masterpiece, truly I especially dig how neat the paintjob is. It's hatrd to tell it was painted AFTERWARDS. Looks more as if it was done of different-coloured components. Really great job
great! I bought some very tinish masking tape (only 1 mm wide) and I must admit it is really awesome for adding details like that! I would use tiny brush too, but I have a very shaky hands on a daily basis, so I can't risk coming out of the destined areas *_*
