A new clay statue that I decided to bust out without much forethought. Honestly, I was watching Transformers: Prime one night and thought to myself: "Hasbro only has the live-action TF action figures out on the market nowadays and G1 toys cost too much. Hunh. I should make my own!"
And lo, Clay Optimus Prime was born. I wanted to do him in a traditional SD (Super Deformed) style, with the stupidly small body/limbs and large head. However, I somehow ended up making him look fairly proportionate, which was unintended...it kinda just...happened. :shrug:

Prime is made of 100% Sculpty III clay, like my Clay to Life Samus. I only used silver for the few select silver parts (mouthpiece, smokestacks, grille, forehead), the windows, which were painted light blue, the feet, and the eyes. Everything else is made of colored clay.

The whole project was generally inexpensive, fun, and quick. I spent about $5 on the clay and it took less than a week to make. The whole thing was actually pretty simple, given Prime's rectangular nature. He's basically a lot of squares put together into a robot.

I absolutely love how the head turned out though. I was initially going for a really SD look, complete with huge eyes and everything, but in the end, I had to pull out my old Masterpiece Optimus Prime and use his head for reference. Therefore, as I started studying said reference, I unwittingly made the clay in that likeness. It certainly took away from the inital "cuteness" that I wanted this sculpture to have, but I'm generally very pleased with how it turned out.
On the other hand, however, I'm extremely unsatisfied with the right hand. I didn't dwell on it too much and kinda just mashed it together real quick in an attempt to finish the whole thing up promptly. Then, seeing as I didn't want to make another one, I went ahead and made the Energon Axe for the left hand as a sort of loophole excuse not to make another hand. ^^;
