Beam Gatling by xxLelouchxx67 Beam Gatling by xxLelouchxx67
When assembling the weapons, I distinctly remember going "BEAM gatling!? lolwhut?" after seeing it in the manual. Never realized Katoki retrofitted the EW version of Heavyarms with a gatling that fires beam salvos now. Always assumed it used traditional bullets like it's predicessors.

The manual and box art shows the gatling as being a solid, flat black, but seeing as that looked rather boring, I went ahead and did the uneeded: I painted the barrel and end silver and added some gold highlights. I also went out of my way to spray paint the bullet belt(?) gold. Lord, it was a tedius task having to clean and spray all 28 bits of that freaken' belt...and since I freak out at spray paint fumes (even in well-ventilated areas with the wind blowing away from me and when I'm wearing a gas mask), I could only do a little at a time before I needed a breather. The end result tured out ok though, methinks. While definetly not perfect, it certainly turned out well and adds a nice aestetic difference to the Heavyarms' main armament.

I just finished building MG Deathscythe. I haven't test it that much, but as a fan of Katoki's EW designs (especially of the first five Gundams), I've been loving the fact that they've been all finally released in MG form, which is cheap compared to getting the EW HGs and discontinued B-Club conversion kits.

I plan on getting Heavyarms next (hopefully soon), since I love how that gatling gun looks, even if it is in one color in design. Still, you made it look good in painting it. I do have a question; how does posing Heavyarms with it handle? I'm asking since I've seen another person here on DA being displeased with how it handles with the gatling and decided to kitbash it, using another from a SEED MG.

How is the Deathscythe? I'm debating on which Wing EW kit to pick up next...the one thing I don't like about the MG EW Deathscythe is that the black areas are all a dark navy blue...I'll probably end up spraying it in a flat matte black if I get the kit anytime soon.

As for the Heavyarms, it doesn't exactly handle the cubersome beam gatling supurbly, especially with how the hands are designed, and after a little bit the pegs can get a bit weak so the gatling will be prone to falling off all over the place. It's frustrating at first, to be sure, but after a while you get used to it, and it isn't terrible. Because of the bullet belt behind the Heavyarms, though, you really can't squeeze much of a dynamic pose out of such a large weapon. ^^;

(Sorry for the wait for the reply.)

I'm probably not the best person to be asked how MG DS ver. EW handles, since A. it's actually my very first MG, and B. I sometimes have a tendency to screw my models up by sometimes handling 'em a bit too much, as if they were RDs or MSiAs. *shrug* Nevertheless, it's not my only 1/100; it handles it's own weight better than my 1/100 Gold SUMO. (I'm thinking of taking it apart and applying normal glue to get it to fight gravity.)

So far, I almost had bad luck during assembly with the rear skirt armor (the one attached to it's left) as the connection almost broke; I don't know if it was due to a screw-up of mine or not, so naturally I'll blame me. But twice that part did disconnect (not break) when posing, not unlike my GFF Wing.

One or both of the arms also disconnected (again, didn't break), but I'm new to MGs; I don't know how they should handle when built, and their limitations are self-evident when being built. I don't know about the snugness of the shoulder armor's attachment to the frame, though.

Plus, I'm biased; I like Katoki's designs of the first five Gundams, so I'd personally get 'em all on that reason alone. (I'd wait before I get MG Wing ver. Ka/EW though; I already have the GFF and RD versions.)

As for Heavyarms, so far, I didn't expect there to be dynamic poses with the Gatling either, but that didn't make the design any less cool in '97 (when it was just lineart in a magazine), nor does it (in my view) today. *shrug* And I don't recall too many dynamic action shots for HA in the new GW manga.

Oh, and it seems the hands are a constant, so I'm taking your comments about HA's hands in mind when posing the DS with the scythe (with beam blade attached). Minor sagging problems, especially when having DS pose with the scythe one-handed, but that's less of a problem than the hands.

If the hands were going to be that way, why didn't they just make the hands more like modern HGs? I feel the hands for my 1/100 SUMO are better built, even if there's more sagging issues (and some issues with it's weight).

*shrug* Oh, well. I'm still getting HA and the rest of the EW models (and Okawara's WG).

Cool paint work on Heavyarms, my favorite Gundam. I mean, sure, Deathscythe and Altron are cool looking, and Wing Zero is awesome, but Heavyarms and Sandrock are, hands down, my favorite Gundams.

man the gatling looks so awesome! that was the big selling point of me, that and the missile bays. the details you added make the gatling look wicked bad ass!

Thanks! Yeah the new gatling is definetly a hard point on this kit, especially since it was never released before. Glad you like! :D
